x+why launched in 2019 with a simple belief: business should be a force for good. We’re a founder-led, Certified B Corp creating hospitality-led spaces that put people and planet alongside profit.

Today, we operate 17 coworking, event and members’ club spaces across London, Birmingham, Manchester and Milton Keynes, supporting a community of more than 5,000 members.

Unity Place is our Milton Keynes home, conveniently located near the train station with free parking on site. We’re now getting ready to open a brand new café - and you could be part of the team bringing it to life!!

This is a 45-hour variable contract, working Monday to Friday (yes, the weekend is all yours!), with shifts scheduled between 7am and 4pm.

The bit about the role

As our Barista & Café Host, you’ll be one of the first faces our customers see and a big part of the atmosphere we create.

You’ll prepare consistently excellent coffee and other drinks, serve customers with warmth and get to know the regulars and wider Unity Place community. You’ll help keep the café immaculate, welcoming and well presented throughout the day, setting up and replenishing our food and pastry displays so they always look their best.

You’ll also support the less glamorous but equally important bits, including opening and closing, cleaning and stock control. Alongside the café, you’ll keep an eye on the customer-facing micro-market area, making sure it remains tidy and presentable and reporting any issues to our vending partner.

As the café becomes established, the offer will continue to grow – giving you the opportunity to learn, develop and play a part in shaping what comes next.

The bit about you

You know how to make an excellent coffee, but you also understand that good hospitality is about much more than what’s in the cup.

You’re warm, friendly and enjoy talking to people. You take pride in the details, notice when something needs doing and are happy to get stuck in without waiting to be asked.

Experience is important, but personality and mindset matter just as much to us. Opening something new means there won’t always be a ready-made answer, so you’ll need to be positive, resilient and comfortable when plans change or things are still taking shape.
