The bit about the role
Full transparency, this probably isn’t the job for you if...
you want to sit behind a desk all day.
you prefer every day to look the same.
you like jobs where you can quietly stay in the background.
Because being the Community Manager at our People's Mission Hall (PMH) site in Whitechapel, means being involved in all parts of the building experience.
As CM, you'll be the main point of contact for members, guests and visitors, helping create a space that feels welcoming, well run, and full of personality.
This role has dual site responsibility as covers PMH and one nearby sister site (approx 15-minute walk away), so you’ll be comfortable moving between locations and managing priorities across both spaces.
PMH is a characterful historic building with a strong operational focus behind the scenes. A large part of the role involves facilities management, coordinating third-party contractors, managing supplier relationships, and working closely with landlords to keep the buildings operating smoothly and to a high standard. Alongside this, you’ll oversee Health & Safety compliance, budgets, invoice management with the finance team, and work closely with the sales team to support tours and renewals across both sites.
At x+why, we talk a lot about “meet us in the moments” - the conversations, experiences, and everyday interactions that turn a workspace into a real community. While this role leans more heavily into operations, community still plays an important part. There is a real opportunity for someone to bring fresh energy and create consistent opportunities for members to connect and collaborate.
The space
PMH is not a traditional office environment. Think polished concrete floors, neon details, plants, and at PMH we have a stunning courtyard garden hidden in the middle of the site. The second site has a similar creative and relaxed feel, with both spaces attracting a mix of member profiles.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll oversee the day-to-day running of both buildings, making sure operational standards remain high across facilities, suppliers, contractors, health & safety, budgets, and landlord relationships.
Alongside the operational side, you’ll support members throughout their time in the space - from move-ins and renewals, to the smaller day-to-day interactions that shape the overall member experience.
The role also plays an important part in supporting occupancy rates across both sites through hosting confident and engaging tours for prospective members.
The bit about you
You’re organised, practical, and comfortable managing a range of moving parts. You enjoy change, are naturally resourceful when faced with a problem and take great pride in being the person everyone turns to when something needs doing.
You’re exceptional people skills ensure you are equally comfortable dealing with contractors, landlords, and suppliers as you are being a brand ambassador.
You notice the details, are genuinely curious about people and understand that it is often the smallest interactions that can have the biggest impact.
Experience within the coworking/flex sector is advantageous, however we are open to speaking to those working within a hospitality/member focused environment who can demonstrate knowledge of sales and building operations.
Why x+why?
We want you to enjoy coming to work. Even on Mondays.
To make sure of this we will provide you with a phenomenal environment - think inspiring design, cutting edge tech, stunning views, great coffee, and lots and lots of plants!
Plus, you’ll be part of our hugely supportive, collaborative team, who although take their members’ experience very seriously, also want to have a little fun along the way.
